EcoScan processes your personal data when you use our services and/or provide this information to us.
Below is an overview of the personal data we process:

- Information about your activities on our website and app
- Photos that are taken within the app
If you create an account, we will also process:
- First and last name

Special and/or sensitive personal data that we process:
Our website and/or service does not intend to collect data about website visitors who are younger than 16 years old, unless they have permission from their parents or guardians. However, we cannot verify the age of visitors. We encourage parents to be involved in their children's online activities to prevent the collection of data about children without parental consent. If you believe that we have collected personal information about a minor without permission, please contact us at privacy@ecoscanapp.eu, and we will promptly delete this information.

EcoScan processes your personal data for the following purposes:

Automated decision-making:
EcoScan makes automated decisions that may affect individuals. These decisions are made by computer programs or systems without involving a person (e.g., an EcoScan employee). EcoScan uses the following computer programs or systems:
The backend of EcoScan makes an automated decision based on the forwarded photo to determine which container (or waste loading station) the object could be sorted into.
How long we store personal data:
EcoScan does not retain your personal data longer than is strictly necessary to achieve the purposes for which your data is collected. We use the following retention periods for the following categories of personal data:
- IP address and location data: A few minutes This data is only used in the system to make better decisions.
- Personal data: After termination, 1 month This data is retained until users delete their accounts. Account deletion requests are typically processed within a month.
Sharing personal data with third parties:
EcoScan will not sell your information to third parties and will only share this information if it is necessary for the execution of our agreement with you or to comply with a legal obligation. When we share your data with third-party companies for data processing, we ensure that they sign a processor agreement to guarantee the same level of security and confidentiality for your data. EcoScan remains responsible for these processing operations.
Cookies, or similar techniques, that we use:
EcoScan uses a few cookies and similar techniques. A cookie is a small text file stored in your browser.
- Functional: one cookie that remembers your cookie choice for six months. It is needed for the website and does not require permission.
- Analytical: Google Analytics and Metricool show us how visitors use the website and find us via social media. They are only loaded, and their cookies only placed, after you give permission.
- Videos: YouTube videos load from youtube-nocookie.com, and only when you press play.
We do not use advertising cookies.
On your first visit we ask for your permission for the analytical cookies. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time via "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page. You can also delete cookies in the settings of your browser.
View, modify, or delete data:
You have the right to view, correct, or delete your personal data. You also have the right to withdraw your consent to the data processing or to object to the processing of your personal data by EcoScan, and you have the right to data portability. This means that you can submit a request to have the personal data that we have available removed from you.
You can send a request for access, correction, deletion, data transfer of your personal data, or request for cancellation of your consent or objection to the processing of your personal data to privacy@ecoscanapp.eu.
To ensure that the request for access has been made by you, we ask you to send a copy of your ID with the request. Make your passport photo, MRZ (machine-readable zone, the strip with numbers at the bottom of the passport), passport number, and Citizen Service Number (BSN) black in this copy. This is to protect your privacy. We respond as quickly as possible, but within four weeks, to your request.
